Memory/Autobiography Night Large Format Night Open Night Student Night Documentary Night Summer Night Street Night Stella Johnson teaches at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, Boston University and for the Maine Media Workshops in Mexico and Greece. She was a Fulbright Scholar to Mexico in 2003-2004, and a Fulbright Senior Specialist to Mexico in 2006, for photographing and teaching, respectively. The University of Maine Press published Stella ’s monograph AL SOL: Photographs from Mexico, Cameroon and Nicaragua in 2008. Her work has been widely exhibited in the US and Mexico, including the Haggerty Museum of Art, Marquette University, The University of Maine Museum of Art, Bangor Maine and The Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona Beach, FL. Her work has spanned editorial assignments, corporate projects, documentaries and personal artistic expressions. Stella has worked extensively in both the U.S. and overseas with commissions from The Ford Foundation, EarthWatch Institute and Continental Airlines and assignments from Time, Fortune, and US News and World Report. Stella took a workshop with Constantine Manos about 15 years ago. It was a life-altering experience for her because he taught her how to “see;” how to make a composition, how to consider the whole frame, especially the edges and how to wait for a moment. Over the years, Manos continued as Stella’s mentor: he has critiqued and edited her work and helped sequence her book. Stella says she feels privileged to have been taught and mentored by such a gifted photographer and warm and wonderful person. Book Night Neal Rantoul is a career artist and teacher.
