The work of When Time Matters reflects time as it passes and stands still, how we use our time, and what it represents.

When Time Matters also honors the dedicated support from PRC Board and Committee members in their contribution of volunteer time. Their time is precious, respected, valued, and it’s what fuels everything PRC.

Steven Duede, from the I-70 series

Eric Nichols’ photographs capture domestic moments that may otherwise pass by unnoticed. In their isolated life of the COVID-19 pandemic, husband and wife turned their cameras on each other to explore how they see themselves as they navigated their time in near isolation. Steven Duede’I-70 series features the relics of service stations found along Interstate 70 between St. Louis and Kansas City Missouri. The lonely, broken structures once had a purpose and have been left to weather the elements and become a disjointed part of the landscape.

Faith Ninivaggi, from her genZ series

As Faith Ninivaggi watches her own children mature into independent humans, she is privy to the teenage world to which many adults are denied access. Her teen portrait project-GenZ. Began within days of the world going into lockdown. The photographs speak to the critical developmental time when teenagers navigate who they are, who they are becoming and who they desire to be. Time as seen by Suzanne Révy manifests in photographs of nature, multiple-panel presentations that create dialogs between space and form, and imply passages of time. Her work is an observation of changing foliage, the pulse of water levels in local rivers, and the shifting light of the sun.

The Photographic Resource Center has been a supporter of photographers at all stages of their careers for more than 45 years. Initially founded as a newsletter by photographers Chris Enos and Carl Chiarenza, the PRC’s first mission was to educate the community about what was happening in photography in the Boston area. As the PRC grew so did programming of exhibitions, workshops, portfolio reviews, workshares, and more. As a small nonprofit with a growing presence and expanding outreach, more hands on deck became a necessity and the community responded by volunteering their time with gusto. While the PRC maintains a small staff, it is truly a volunteer organization and could not achieve its goals without volunteer commitment.

Through the lenses of the When Time Matters photographers we see how their creative time is spent, and through their generous contributions of their time to the PRC we know the depth of their commitment to their craft and encouraging others to explore their own visions.
