Rodger Kingston has worn many hats beyond fine art and documentary photographer. In 1975, Kingston opened the Photographic Eye Inc., a gallery and bookstore in Harvard Square, and later earned his EdM from Harvard University. Kingston started building his collection of over 4,000 vernacular photographs and objects in the 1970s. Also a Walker Evans scholar, Kingston published Walker Evans in Print: An Illustrated Bibliography (1995) and an exhibition, Fifty Years on the Mangrove Coast: Photographs by Walker Evans and Rodger Kingston (1998), traveled for two years.

Kingston was a member of the PRC’s Board of Directors in the 2000s. The PRC hosted an exhibition from his vernacular collection in 1997 and a show of contemporary artists that engaged such ideas in conjunction with a large exhibition of his collection at the BU Art Gallery in 2004. This print showcases his style and interest in vernacular architecture and expression.
