Join us Wednesday, October 24th for a lively evening of conversation, photo viewing, and connection on the theme of Still Life, hosted by guest presenter Yorgos Efthymiadis. In addition, four PRC members, who have signed up ahead of time, will show their Still Life-related work for discussion.
PRC Nights are evenings of photography, conversation, and connection that are free and open to all. After a presentation by our host, we’ll hear from and engage with the members about their work in a casual and supportive environment. Audience members are also welcome to discuss the various series, issues, and ideas and ask questions. We provide some food and drink, and everyone is welcome to bring refreshments, too.
Find out more about PRC Nights here, including how to sign up to present your work and what to bring.
Date: Wednesday, October 24th, 6:30 – 8:30pm (sign up is now open; first come, first served)
Artist host: Yorgos Efthymiadis
Theme: Still Life
Location: Lesley Art + Design, Lunder Arts Center, Lesley University, 1801 Massachusetts Avenue, Room 321 (enter on the church side), Cambridge, MA, Porter Square
ABOUT THE NIGHT: Do you photograph objects, collections, or possessions in evocative, simple, or striking surroundings? Then consider signing up to share your work and/or attending this stimulating thematic program.
Still life has long considered the fleeting nature of life, human as well as flora and fauna, via the depiction of various items in painting and later photography. The selection and arrangement of things also speaks to material culture and more, along with their settings and spaces. For this Night, we’re especially interested in work that pushes the boundaries, but also welcome photography that engages more traditional notions of the genre.
ABOUT THE HOST: Yorgos Efthymiadis is an artist from Greece who resides in Somerville, MA. He was a finalist for the 2017 Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship; a recipient of the St. Botolph Club Foundation 2017 Emerging Artist Award; and a 2018 Critical Mass Finalist. He has exhibited nationally and internationally and is represented locally by Gallery Kayafas. Efthymiadis was selected to show in EXPOSURE, The PRC’s Juried Exhibition, in 2015 and curated “Off the Wall” at the PRC in the winter of 2016. He is on the board of the Somerville Arts Council.
Efthymiadis is known for his photographic work on the social landscape, architecture, and still life. In his celebrated series “Domesticated: Seeing Past Seduction,” he photographs antique guns in collectors’ living environments. Recently, he juried an online exhibition for N.Y. Photo Curator, “Still Life 2.0.” In 2015, he created a gallery in his own kitchen named The Curated Fridge, which was Crusade for Art’s Engagement Grant Finalist and Popular Vote Winner, and has mounted 15 juried exhibitions featuring and connecting photographers around the world. There is a guest curator for every show, which run on a quarterly basis, and entry is free of charge.
