Born in St. Louis and residing in Sante Fe, Gunnar Plake has forty years of experience as an interpretive landscape photographer. By moving the camera during exposure, Plake aims to portray the passage of time. He is best known for his three-part series Grand Canyon, which provides a powerful view of time and space. Plake’s other notable works include a pair of two-part series called Seascapes and Trees, both of which feature unique camera motion to blend color and formulate textures.

His work has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, including at Chiaroscuro Contemporary Art (Santa Fe, NM), the William Havu Gallery (Denver, CO), and Oswald Gallery (Jackson Hole, WY). In addition, Plake’s work resides in permanent collections at the New Mexico Museum of Art (Santa Fe), Santa Barbara Museum of Art (CA), Denver Art Museum (CO), and the Brooklyn Museum (NY).

In 1997, Plake was accepted into the Ucross Foundation Residency Program in Clearmont, Wyoming.
