ARTIST STATEMENT

I am drawn to places where signs of humanity remain visible. This series was photographed inside a home after its owner had passed away. What interested me was not the story of the person who lived there, but the quiet evidence of everyday life found within the space. As I moved through the rooms, I looked for moments where light, color, texture, and composition revealed something beyond the objects themselves. The arrangement of furniture, personal belongings, and ordinary household objects suggested a life that had unfolded there over time. These photographs are observations of a place shaped by daily life. They explore how ordinary objects and spaces can hold a sense of presence long after the moments that created them have passed.

ARTIST BIO

Steve Genatossio is a fine art photographer drawn to light, shadow, and the traces people leave behind. His work is rooted in years of darkroom practice, where he learned to value tonal depth, atmosphere, and strong compositional design. Steve’s interest lies in overlooked places, worn objects, and fading structures. Though not drawn to document the human condition, he seeks to record signs of humanity within the built environment. His background in black-and-white printing continues to shape the way he sees, even though he now works primarily in color. He uses digital tools with the same discipline and sensitivity he developed through traditional photographic practice, always seeking to transform ordinary scenes through the expressive qualities of light, shadow, and composition.
