John Savoia is a Boston based photographer who focuses on repeated documentation of his neighborhood through the compression of long expanses of time into still image. The idea that all photographs are in a way self portraits, or reveal the self, is intrinsic to his practice.
Use of old, flawed, and repurposed equipment, using alternative chemical processes, and hand cut paper negatives in homemade cameras are an integral part of this practice. This work is slow, methodical, and often results in a small handful of images for months of work.
John is a 2026 PRC Artist-In-Residence.
