Artist Panel: My Grandmother is an Altar

    Date : June 18, 2025 | 6:30 PM
Location : VanDernoot Gallery at Lesley University Hall, 1815 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA

Join us for an evening of conversation with artists Tarik Bartel, Kannetha Brown, and Anhkim Dang, whose work is featured in the PRC’s current exhibition My Grandmother is an Altar. This special artist panel will be moderated by Audrey Sands, Richard L. Menschel Associate Curator of Photography at the Harvard Art Museums.

Together, the artists will reflect on memory, matriarchal lineage, and the complexities of diasporic identity as explored through photography, film, and altar-making. Through their work honoring their Thai, Cambodian, and Vietnamese grandmothers, they offer intimate meditations on resilience, cultural preservation, and intergenerational love.

Moderated by a leading voice in contemporary photography, this discussion will delve into how personal history becomes visual testimony—and how image-making can serve as an act of resistance and remembrance.

This event is free, but registration is required as seating in the gallery is limited.
