For fifty years, the Photographic Resource Center has been sustained by a remarkable community of artists, members, educators, and supporters who believe in the power of photography. Together, we have built more than an organization. We have created a space where images are shared, ideas are exchanged, and creative voices are nurtured.
As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we honor the photographers and community members whose curiosity, generosity, and engagement continue to shape the PRC. At a time when arts funding remains uncertain, the strength of this community is what allows us to present exhibitions, support artists, and foster meaningful dialogue through photography.
This spring, we invite you to be part of that legacy. Your support helps ensure that the PRC remains a welcoming, artist-centered home for photography for the next fifty years.
$8,000 raised of our $20,000 goal!
“The PRC Artist-in-Residence program gave me the space, time, and support to explore my medium in ways I couldn’t have done alone. With mentorship, resources, and the freedom to experiment, I was able to push my practice forward and create work that continues to evolve. The residency concluded with an exhibition supported by the PRC and the photographic community — an experience I’m deeply grateful for.”
— Sri Thumati, 2025 PRC Artist-in-Residence
Why this Appeal
The Photographic Resource Center enters its 50th year at a moment of both celebration and urgency. For five decades, the PRC has been a vital space where photographers share work, exchange ideas, and build community.
In 2026, we will present seven exhibitions alongside special anniversary programming. At the heart of this milestone year is the 50th Anniversary Mentorship Program — a $12,000 investment in artists that supports meaningful exchange between emerging photographers and established mentors.
As arts funding remains uncertain and opportunities for photographers continue to narrow, independent, artist-centered spaces like the PRC are more essential than ever.
Your support sustains exhibitions, supports artists, and ensures the PRC continues to serve as an accessible home for photography.
This is a year to celebrate — and to invest in the PRC’s future
“Every year the Photographic Resource Center mounts “Your Work Here.” The show’s organizing principle is straightforward: Members are encouraged to submit a single photograph, and all submissions are accepted. This year there are more than a hundred on display. It’s the visual equivalent of a pot luck, except this self-offered meal is of banquet proportions. This year the PRC has its 50th anniversary. “Your Work Here 2026” is a fine way to kick off a year-long celebration. It also makes you wonder what a “Your Work Here 1976” might have looked like.”

WHY PRC MATTERS
PRC is more than a gallery. We are a platform for artists, a learning space for students, and a gathering place for audiences who believe in the power of images.
PRC does not rely on large endowments or corporate backing. Our strength comes from individuals who value photography and believe in its role in shaping how we see the world.
When you give, you help:
- Sustain independent arts programming
- Support photographers at every stage of their careers
- Ensure access to photography for diverse audiences
WHY PHOTOGRAPHY MATTERS

From the Executive Director:
How Photography Changed My Life
This image was taken at my high school graduation and my very first photography exhibition.
It marks a turning point in my life. A few years earlier, my father passed away, and I struggled deeply with grief. I left high school for a time, unsure of my direction or future.
Photography became my way back.
Using my father’s camera gave me focus, structure, and a way to process what I didn’t yet have words for. With the support of a teacher and an alternative photography class, I returned to school, graduated, and began a path that eventually led me to earn my BFA and MFA in Photography — bringing me to where I am today.
Photography changed my life.
That’s why supporting photography matters. Access matters. Mentorship matters. A place to show your work for the first time matters. One class, one exhibition, one community can shift the course of someone’s life — just as it did mine.
For 50 years, the PRC has created space for artists, students, and community members to experience those same moments of discovery, connection, and creative growth.
Your donation, in any amount, helps sustain that work and supports the 50th anniversary programs we’re proud to present this year. Help us reach our Spring Appeal goal and ensure that photography continues to open doors for the next generation.
