Second Sight Photo Program

Second Sight was an intensive after-school photo based art education program exploring digital photo techniques and concepts in a classroom environment.

For three years, the Second Sight Photo Program was offered at three area high schools in Boston. These schools included Tech Boston Academy, Boston Prepatory Charter Public School in collaboration with the New England Institute of Art, and our newest educational partner Fenway High School.

The Second Sight Photo Program encouraged students' creativity and self - expression, while prompting an active reflection on issues of identity, representation, and environment, through a series of hands-on photographic activities. Under the guidance of experienced artist/educators, students worked with digital cameras, Adobe Photoshop, and various color and black and white digital outputs to create works of art inspired by their own lives while learning the basics of photography. Students study a variety of photographic techniques and genres such as portraiture, still life, photo-montage, street photography, etc. It afforded students the ability and confidence to photograph the world around them, while also considering their place in that world.

processTHIS: Conversations in Photography

processTHIS was a seminar for Boston area high school students who were interested in studying contemporary photography. The program created an open and supportive forum in which students explored and discussed the work of visiting artists from the PRC's visiting artist lecture series, prior to that artist's visit. Students then assumed the role of an arts journalist as they met with and interviewed these internationally renowned artists to learn more about their compelling work.

Students worked collaboratively with their classmates to create art projects that incorporated the visiting artist's technical and conceptual concerns. These projects helped build students' creative processes and critical abilities, as well as strengthen their portfolios.
