Before attending the Rhode Island School of Design for his BFA and MFA, Henry Horenstein studied history at the University of Chicago and in England. Horenstein taught at Harvard University, the University of Massachusetts, and is Professor at RISD. Author of the classic textbooks Black-and-White Photography: A Basic Manual and Color Photography, Horenstein has published over 30 books, including Humans (2004), Aquatics (2001), Racing Days (1987), and Close Relations (2007), containing some of his earliest work.
Starting in 1986, Horenstein served on the PRC Board of Directors and has regularly given lectures, booksignings, and workshops. Selections from his series Honky Tonk: Portraits of Country Music 1972-1981 were shown in the PRC gallery in 2004. Animals are one of Horenstein's many foci and passions, shown often in close up and with an otherworldly focus; this image first appeared in his book Creatures (1999).
All prints are available for viewing at the PRC with advanced notice.
