Based on Cape Ann, Pamela Ellis Hawkes holds degrees from Harvard University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  Shown and collected in numerous regional and national galleries and collections, Hawkes is the recipient of numerous awards, including recognition from the Ernst Haas Annual Photography Awards twice and Maine Photographic Workshops' Golden Light Award.

Hawkes was selected for the 2001 PRC Juried Exhibition, with a juror's award, and featured in the NEO online series reboot in 2011.  In her more recent work, she has investigated ideas of various genres, such as landscape and still-life, in different mediums.  This luscious black-and-white print is part of her earlier series, "Surrogate Reality," which questions the nature of representation and reproduction.
