Frank Gohlke holds degrees in English from the University of Texas at Austin and Yale University, where he met Walker Evans and then studied privately with Paul Caponigro.  Collected and shown extensively, Gohlke earned two Guggenheim fellowships and two NEA fellowships.  Equally adept at writing, he has numerous books to his name, including Accommodating Nature: The Photographs of Frank Gohlke (2007). Gohlke has taught at MassArt, Lesley University, School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, among others. He is currently Professor at the University of Arizona and Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Creative Photography.

Gohlke has lectured and given workshops and master classes several times at the PRC. Known for his evocative landscapes that engage place and time, he began this series on the Sudbury River soon after he moved to MA from the Midwest; it was shown and published by the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (1993).
