DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the amazing photobooks now at the 16th Annual Self-Published Photobook Exhibition at the Griffin Museum\, open through Labor Day week-end. The show was juried by Karen Davis and Crista Dix (the Griffin Museum’s director). I’m honored that my photobook\, E PLURIBUS UNUM (OUT OF MANY\, ONE) was included in the show. The book highlights the contribution of immigrant stoneworkers during the renovation of a historic church building in Boston. Distinct from the gallery aesthetic\, photobooks offer their own visual language\, often conducive to more narrative qualities and seriality than the standard on-the-wall format. A parallel exhibition of hand-made photobooks is also on view.

DESCRIPTION:This hands-on workshop is designed for photographers and lens-based artists looking to build confidence working with studio lighting and strobes. Participants will learn the fundamentals of studio lighting\, including how to work with light modifiers\, create different lighting setups\, and understand how lighting shapes mood\, portraiture\, and visual storytelling. \n\n\n\nThe workshop will include live demonstrations followed by hands-on shooting time where participants can experiment with professional lighting equipment in a small-group setting. DESCRIPTION:How can photography help us reimagine the places we know? \n\n\n\nIn this hands-on workshop\, participants will explore photography as a material for creative experimentation through collage\, layering\, mixed media\, and found imagery. DESCRIPTION:Skill Level: All levelsCapacity: 8–10 participants \n\n\n\nPRC Members: $200 + $20 materials feeNon-Members: $240 + $20 materials feeMaterials fee includes chemistry and film. \n\n\n\nAbout the Workshop\n\n\n\nDiscover an environmentally conscious approach to analog photography by developing black-and-white film using low-toxicity chemistry made from foraged plants and common household ingredients. In this hands-on workshop\, you’ll shoot\, develop\, and scan your own film while learning sustainable darkroom techniques that reduce chemical and water use. \n\n\n\nNo previous darkroom experience is necessary. This is an experimental process\, and participants are encouraged to embrace the unexpected nature of plant-based development. \n\n\n\nYou’ll Learn\n\n\n\n\nSustainable film development using plant-based chemistry\n\n\n\nLoading and developing 35mm film\n\n\n\nMixing plant-based developers\n\n\n\nWater-saving darkroom techniques\n\n\n\nTroubleshooting experimental development\n\n\n\nScanning film for digital output\n\n\n\nWhat to Bring\n\n\n\nA 35mm film camera with a working light meter\n\n\n\nReusable gloves (recommended)\n\n\n\nA towel\n\n\n\n\nIf you don’t have a camera\, a limited number are available to borrow through Lesley University.
